What a walking tour costs
The three main guided walks through Old Louisville cost ~$20–26.50 per adult, so the gap in price between them is small. The bigger difference is what happens to your money if plans change, because the same walk can be refundable on one booking site and not on the other. This guide prices all seven walks we cover, then adds tips and the parts of the neighborhood that cost nothing.
Seven walks in one table
The prices below are the "from" price per adult in US dollars, the lower of the two booking sites where a walk sells on both. Children and seniors usually pay less. The figure the booking page shows for your date is the one that counts.
| Walk | From | Length | Starts | Cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| History and architecture walk, Louisville Historic Tours (our pick) | ~$26.50 | About 90 min, often nearer 2 h | Daily at 11 am, 4th and Ormsby | Free until 24 h before on GetYourGuide; non-refundable on Viator |
| Evening ghost walk, Louisville Historic Tours | ~$25 | 100 min to 2 h | Usually 7:30 pm, 4th and Ormsby | Free to 24 h ahead via GetYourGuide, none via Viator |
| Visitors Center walk | ~$20 | 90 min | Usually 11 am and 1:30 pm, Central Park | Free until 24 h before |
| Glitter Ball City walk with the author | ~$95.40 | 2.5 h | 2:30 pm on a few dates | Free until 24 h before |
| 60-minute private walk | ~$23.85 | 1 h | See the listing | Not confirmed, check the listing |
| Smartphone ghost walk, WalknTours | ~$9.75 | 50–70 min | Any time, by app | Free cancellation |
| Private haunted walk, day or night | ~$75 | 2 h | See the listing | Check the listing |
The two private walks are priced by group size, so the figure shown is a floor rather than a per-person fare. No price in the table includes a tip.
The two Louisville Historic Tours walks
Our pick, Louisville Historic Tours' history and architecture walk costs ~$26.50 per adult on both GetYourGuide and Viator, with cheaper tickets for children and seniors, and the Viator listing lets infants come free. Viator also shows an optional gratuity of $5 per person in its price block, so two adults who accept it pay $63 instead of $53. For that you get a daily 11 am walk of about 90 minutes that often stretches toward 2 hours, with a guide who names the styles as you pass. It holds 4.95 stars from 179 reviews on GetYourGuide and 4.9 from 790 on Viator.
The ghost walk is the one where the booking site changes the price. Same operator, same corner, same stories, yet GetYourGuide charges ~$25 while Viator wants about $29 a head. A couple saves around $8 by choosing GetYourGuide and gets free cancellation thrown in. Old Louisville ghost walks, explained describes what those 2 hours after dark contain.
The Visitors Center walk
The Historic Old Louisville Visitors Center's walk, from ~$20, is the cheapest guided option and sells only on Viator, with discounts for youths and seniors. The Visitors Center is a non-profit, and one reviewer liked that the ticket money helps preserve the neighborhood. Bottled water and a hand fan come with the ticket, and guests can use the restroom before setting off. The Visitors Center's own listings have shown walk-in prices that differ from Viator's, so compare before you buy.
Daily at 11 am, refundable on one site
The history and architecture walk costs ~$26.50 on either site. On GetYourGuide you keep free cancellation until 24 hours ahead and pay closer to the day; on Viator you pay up front with no refund.
Cancellation, the hidden cost
Both Louisville Historic Tours walks are non-refundable on Viator, and those bookings cannot be changed. If the operator calls a walk off for weather, it offers a fresh date or a full refund. If you fall ill or wake to drizzle and decide to stay in, the money is gone, and several of the few low reviews on the history walk come from guests caught exactly that way.
On GetYourGuide the same two walks carry free cancellation until 24 hours before, and you can reserve now and pay later. The Visitors Center walk has free cancellation until 24 hours ahead on Viator. For a trip with loose plans, the cheapest ticket is the one you can still cancel. The best time to walk Old Louisville explains how the walks handle rain.

Tips and small extras
Tipping the guide is customary on every walk, and no listing builds it into the price. Viator's suggested $5 per person for the Louisville Historic Tours walks is a sensible starting point, so carry some small bills. Street parking near the start is usually free and easy, according to the operator, except on St. James Court Art Show weekend in early October. In summer, add bottled water for the Louisville Historic Tours walks, which include none.
Two pricier walks and what they add
The author-led Glitter Ball City walk, ~$95.40, costs several times a standard ticket but bundles more. The price covers entry to the Conrad-Caldwell House and a signed copy of David Dominé's memoir, and the afternoon opens with a welcome cocktail or mocktail. It runs on a handful of dates only and has 2 reviews. A regular walk plus a museum ticket at roughly $15–20 still costs much less; going inside the Conrad-Caldwell House explains that route.
The 60-minute private walk, from ~$23.85, is priced by group size and works out cheaper per head for groups of 5 to 15. It lasts only an hour, though, and has 30 reviews.
What costs nothing
The streets themselves are free. The walking courts are public walkways and Central Park is open to all, so the facades cost nothing to admire; a self-guided walk you can do today maps a route. In summer the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival stages free outdoor plays in Central Park, and the St. James Court Art Show charges no entry on its weekend in October.
A family of four, priced out
Take two adults and two children. At full adult prices, four tickets would cost:
- History walk. About $106, plus $20 if you accept Viator's suggested gratuity;
- Ghost walk. $100 on GetYourGuide, or about $117 on Viator;
- Visitors Center walk. $80, before the youth discount;
- Private 60-minute walk. Priced for the whole group, so ask the listing for a quote for four.
Child and youth rates bring each figure down, so the real total for a family usually lands below these numbers. Kids, strollers and wheelchairs explains which ages count as children on each walk.
